A virtual exploration of an animal cell using Minecraft
In the above video, the teacher creates a virtual animal cell to allow students a chance to explore and observe the different organelles in an animal cell. At one point in the video, the teacher comes across an uninterested student.

Simulating Particles in Different States of Matter
Here, students actually “become” the particles within a model of a solid, liquid and gas. Students learn how applying heat (by way of torching blocks) impacts how tightly packed the particles are, thereby result in a change of state.

Animal Cell
In the video above, students have an opportunity to explore the inner structures of an animal cell in 3D. This type of virtual experience adds another dimension to students’ understanding of concepts usually reserved to a 2D textbook diagram. What other 3D models could you create to enable students to “wander around in” to deepen their understanding?
